LOS ANGELES, Calif. (CBSLA) – It’s been 25 years since Michael Jordan took fans to Looney Tunes land to rescue the Tunes from being banished to Moron Mountain. Now, in Space Jam: A New Legacy, the Tunes are back, this time joining up with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James for another epic basketball battle.

James and the Tunes will face an all-star team headed by James’ son, Dom, and organized by Don Cheadle’s Al G. Rhythm. Dom Cedric Joe, a young Los Angeles resident who grew up a Lakers and LeBron fan, was ecstatic to be given the opportunity to share the screen alongside James.

“Everything seems strange, and I’m just soaking it all in at the moment. A lot of stuff hasn’t sunk in yet. In an interview with CBS Local’s Ryan Mayer, Joe stated, “I feel like I’m just…living the dream right now.”
After landing the role, Joe took careful to do his research, reviewing the original to get a sense of what to anticipate with the Looney Tunes.
“I went back and watched the original Space Jam, and I am a huge admirer of it. It’s a privilege to be able to be a part of the Space Jam franchise and bring it back,” Joe added.
The film examines the father-son relationship between Joe’s character Dom and his son James, who are at odds about Dom’s future. The film revolves on this friendship.
“Obviously, LeBron James’ son, Dom James, is a talented basketball player. He, on the other hand, does not wish to follow in his father’s footsteps and enter the NBA. He wants to go his own way and become a video game developer, and he wants to make games because it’s something he’s very interested in,” Joe said. “That’s something he’s having a hard time persuading his father to comprehend. In this film, we get to witness how they come to an agreement.”

Working with James as a father-son combo was thrilling for Joe since they were able to develop chemistry just by being near each other on set every day.
“It was a lot of fun. We had the opportunity to develop chemistry and spend time with one other on a daily basis. “And the film and the chemistry we had made it very easy for each other to be able to portray a father and son and make it about our relationship and the lack of communication, the difficulty of understanding one another,” Joe added. “You get to see how we comprehend each other and see things from the other person’s perspective.”
Joe made sure to challenge James to several basketball contests, which helped to build their relationship off-screen as well. While he suffered a number of defeats in his matchup with the NBA veteran, Joe claims he did win one game, a free throw shooting battle that he will remember for a long time.
Joe’s message for what viewers can anticipate from the film, which will debut in cinemas and on HBO Max on Friday, is straightforward.
Joe stated, “Expect laughing, family joy, and basketball.”
