The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of a rebuild. With this, they are in the process of trying to figure out what their starting lineup will look like when Ben Simmons returns from injury. There has been much discussion about whether or not they should start Joel Embiid at center or move him back to power forward.
The 76ers starting 5 tonight is a question that has been asked by many people. The Philadelphia 76ers have yet to decide which lineup will start the season.
With Ben Simmons refusing to report to training camp, no one knows what this Philadelphia squad will look like when the season begins. He’s made it obvious that he’s prepared to let $8 million go to waste, so it’s unclear if he’ll ever play for this club.
Philadelphia is in a difficult situation since they clearly want Ben Simmons to remain after signing him to a five-year, $177 million deal last year, but he is playing hardball. Something must have changed in this season for him to be so desperate to flee.
If Ben Simmons is prepared to sit out the whole season and does not want to be there, he should be traded. Philly is prepared to wait until they get the best offer, so anything may not happen until later in the year, but Ben Simmons will be moved at this point.
Shake Milton, point guard
The 76ers will most likely start Shake Milton as their starting point guard now that Ben Simmons is sidelined. Last season, Shake was a key contributor off the bench. In 23.2 minutes per game, he averaged 13.0 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.3 rebounds.
If the 76ers decide to deal Ben Simmons, they will almost certainly trade for a point guard, as I have said. This would relegate Shake Milton to the bench. The T-Wolves, Pacers, and Cavs seem to be Ben’s preferred destinations, with DLo, Malcolm Brogdon, and Collin Sexton likely to join him.
Seth Curry, Shooting Guard
Seth Curry has moved around a lot during his career, but he seems to have settled in Philadelphia. Seth Curry averaged 12.5 points per game, 2.7 assists per game, and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting an amazing 40% from three (45 percent ). Curry complements Ben well because of his ability to spread the floor while also being able to make plays for himself and others.
Throughout their careers, both Curry brothers have been 3-point shooters. It would be entertaining to see them participate in the 3-point competition this season.
Danny Green, Small Forward

Danny Green is your standard three-and-d player. He makes a high percentage of 3-pointers and plays great defense. He’s not going to rack up the points, but he can be a valuable asset on the court.
Danny Green, 34, is a three-time NBA champion who has played for the Lakers, Raptors, and Spurs. He’s been a part of some extremely great teams, and he’s helped them win all of those rings.
Tobias Harris, “Power Forward”

Tobias Harris is in his fourth season with the Philadelphia 76ers. For the 76ers, he has had several outstanding seasons. He averaged 19.5 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game last season. Tobias is also renowned for his efficiency on the field. Last year, he was barely below the 50/40/90 mark.
On a championship team, Tobias may be a second scoring option. Every year, this Philadelphia squad has been right there. They took a step back last season when they lost to the Hawks. One of the reasons Ben wants leaving may be this. In truth, the 76ers could have progressed if he wasn’t so scared to take a shot or if he simply made a good free throw.
Joel Embiid (center)

Joel Embiid, perhaps the greatest center in the league.
He is the most dominating center in the league, if not the “greatest.” This man has the ability to score on anybody, at any time. He’ll score if you don’t send a double-team towards the post. Joel has grown significantly more aggressive on the inside as a result of this realization.
Joel was in the MVP conversation last season after averaging 28.5 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game, and 2.8 assists per game in just 31.1 minutes per game. His PPG and RPG per 36 were 33 and 12.2, respectively. Injury is the only thing that keeps this guy back. That said, the 76ers have done an excellent job of resting him and preparing him for the playoffs. You can’t blame Embiid with everything going down in Philly. He is the Philadelphia 76ers’ heart and soul.
The issue is whether or not “The Process” can ever lead to a championship.
Bench
Andre Drummond, Shaquille Harrison, Matisse Thybulle, Georges Niang, Paul Reed, Charles Bassey, Jaden Springer, Grant Riller, Tyrese Maxey, Furkan Korkmaz, Isaiah Joe, Shaquille Harrison, Matisse Thybulle, Georges Niang, Paul Reed, Charles Bassey
Philadelphia’s bench isn’t very deep. With Georges Niang and Andre Drummond joining the team, they should be able to take some minutes off the bench. Doc Rivers thinks Georges will be a key player for them this season and has discussed giving him some playing time as a small-ball center. This off-season, Andre Drummond was traded for Dwight Howard. Drummond might be a nice fit for the 76ers, particularly if Joel is unable to play. Drummond is well-known for his ability to put up impressive stat lines.
Off the bench, Tyrese Maxey, Furkan Korkmaz, a clutch 3-point shooter, and Matisse Thybulle, a lock-down defender, are also contributors.
Tyrese Maxey had a solid rookie season, averaging 8.0 points per game, 2.0 assists per game, and 1.7 rebounds per game. He had a couple big games last season while the team was dealing with injuries, but he still showed he has the ability to perform at a high level. However, he may not be ready for that starting PG position just yet.
Furkan Korkmaz has been a member of the 76ers for a number of years. He typically gets around 20 minutes each game and comes in to hit a few threes and relieve the starters. Korkmaz isn’t particularly noteworthy, but he does provide the 76ers some wing depth.
Matisse Thybulle is another 76ers bench player who averages about 20 minutes per game. Thybulle will not score 20 points in a game, much less 10 points, but he will come in and defend the greatest player on the court. It only goes to show how important defense is in the NBA, but he might be a lot greater contributor for this club if he could enhance his offensive game a bit.
This Season, How Will The 76ers Look?
This question may be answered in one of three ways:
Ben Simmons continues to refuse to be traded, and the 76ers are unable to make a deal.
Ben Simmons finally breaks his fast and joins the 76ers.
In the next weeks, the 76ers will look for a trade partner for Ben Simmons.
As things stand right now, the 76ers will stick with what they’ve got and finish the season. The club will reach the Eastern Conference playoffs as now, but it has little chance of winning a championship. They may be able to with Ben Simmons, but he appears to believe differently.
I expect a transfer in the coming weeks, since with all Ben has said and done, there is no way this relationship can be rekindled. It has been broken. Done.
It’s never nice to hear such bad news about a team. It generates bad energy, therefore get out of there as soon as possible. The 76ers should be making phone calls on a regular basis to attempt to sort things out before the season begins. If this continues throughout the season, things may become ugly.
